My Brother, The Ultrarunner

These are my brothers (from left to right) Justin and Mike. They are ultrarunners, which means they run very far. For fun. A week ago they made their 3rd attempt to finish the EC100, a 100 mile race from Norco, California to Santa Monica.

Wrestlers inspired me to get my butt in the gym.

This year I got into WWE again. I hadn’t watched since the days of the Rock N Sock Connection. I had never gone to a live event so I bought tickets to Monday Night Raw and decided that in order to get the full experience I would need to get caught up on the storylines and familiarize myself with all the audience chants. The interactive audience is what makes the live events so fun. Well, I started watching and now I’m a wrestling fan again.

What kind of nutrition plan do I need to follow if I want to be big and strong and have the energy to go on long runs? I went online to find out. There are countless articles of bodybuilders who eat 10,000 calories a day in order to keep up their massive physique. When I looked into what ultrarunners eat, turns out a lot of them are vegan or vegetarian. Well, I don’t want to give up meat, and it would certainly make gaining muscle a lot harder too.

Last night, I went to eat at Roscoe’s chicken and waffles (what, it’s my cheat meal!). It was my first time there and it was delicious. I’ll start Monday!

Pretty much most of my adult life, whenever I decide it’s time to start working out again, I say “I’ll start on Monday.” Then I eat another slice of pizza. Monday comes around, then Tuesday, then Wednesday, and I haven’t done anything, and “I’ll start on Monday.” Since I’m gonna start on Monday, I take the excuse to eat whatever I want over the weekend “since it’s the last weekend that I’ll be able to eat like this.” Read More…

One of my favorite scenes in Home Alone (tis the season to watch that movie again) is when little Kevin, home alone, realizes that only he can stand up to the bad guys about to invade his house. He’s scared as heck but knows that sometimes a kid’s gotta do what a kid’s gotta do. So as he is having what might be his last meal and the clock strikes the hour that the bad guys said they would return, he gives himself a little pep talk “This is it.  Signed up for Born to Run 100 Mile Ultramarathon in May 2015

Well, it is official! I have signed up for my very first 100 mile race. I will be doing the Born to Run ultramarathon in May 2015. That’s 25 weeks from now.

I told my boss I was training for a 100 mile race and he says “it runs in your family, everybody runs in your family, CRAZY runs in your family.” Then he smiled and wished me the best of luck. Read More…
